SQLI carries out the UX/UI redesign of Alstom's corporate website

Alstom, a global leader in sustainable and intelligent mobility, designs and deploys innovative transport solutions for a low-carbon future. As part of the modernisation of its brand identity, the company called on SQLI, its long-standing partner, to harmonise and update the UX/UI design of its corporate website while modernising a complex legacy technical platform.

2026

A brand evolution requiring technical and UX/UI modernisation of the website

Alstom had embarked on a major evolution of its visual identity, led by a specialist agency, incorporating a new colour palette, new typographies and a revamped iconographic universe.
This transformation involved a profound adaptation of its digital ecosystem, particularly its corporate website.

In this context, the challenge for Alstom was to integrate this new graphic identity into an existing website without any functional disruption, while modernising an ageing technical base that was complex to maintain.

To meet this challenge, Alstom pursued several objectives:

  • Modernise the website without starting from scratch with a complete overhaul.
  • Revise the front-end to improve the quality, readability and maintainability of the code.
  • Harmonise the user experience
  • Faithfully apply the new graphic charter,

To carry out this redesign, Alstom called on its digital partner SQLI, which had already been maintaining and developing its corporate website for several years and had notably created its online portfolio.

Our missions: support combining UX/UI expertise, front-end modernisation and Drupal mastery

In a context of brand identity evolution and significant technical constraints, SQLI mobilised its UX/UI, front-end and Drupal expertise to secure the transition and ensure faithful integration of the new guidelines into a complex corporate website.

Our work was structured around several areas:

  • Complete graphic redesign: creation of around ten templates and overhaul of more than 140 components, based on the new guidelines to offer a modern and consistent experience.
  • UX/UI harmonisation: unification of filter logic and rationalisation of components to simplify navigation and improve readability and accessibility.
  • Front-end modernisation: code clean-up, reduction of technical debt, optimisation of maintainability on an old and heterogeneous base.
  • Development and version upgrade: integration of new graphic elements, compliance with accessibility rules and transition from Drupal 10 to Drupal 11.
  • Implementation of a delivery methodology: organisation of the project into batches to move forward quickly, with client acceptance at each stage.

Ongoing consulting: design and technical recommendations for the intranet.

Results

The graphic and technical overhaul has provided Alstom with a modernised, consistent and more robust website.

Collaboration with the Alstom teams was smooth and constructive throughout the project. The initial mock-ups were very well received, which facilitated the rest of the project and accelerated the approval process. We were able to propose several quick wins to rapidly improve the existing system and provide additional support to apply the new charter to their intranet."

SQLI Project Manager

With SQLI’s support, we were able to translate our refreshed brand identity into a clear and consistent digital experience. The corporate website, as the first platform to be redesigned, now acts as a benchmark for our other digital channels. We truly appreciate the quality of the new web design and the strong collaboration with the SQLI teams throughout the project.
